Culture in the neighborhood comes to Stadshagen | The Swollenaer

ZWOLLE – Wijk’s Cultuur in community art project takes place in May and June at Stadshagen’s Twistvlietpark. Young people from the age of 15 can work together in an artistic expression on six Friday evenings.

This takes place in a festival setting, supervised by artists. First, they go in search of what keeps young people busy and how they see the world. Young people then choose a theme for their artwork. “It’s about making young people see the world as artists,” says Jolan van de Waeter.

As the leader of the project, Van de Waeter is the engine of Cultuur a de Wijk. “Artists look at the world around them differently. His work is a reflection of what is happening in society. During Cultuur in de Wijk, we try to convey the way of looking and thinking that is characteristic of artists to young people “, he explains. “It simply came to our notice then. What can I do about a topic, how do I relate to it? What can I do with different materials, what happens when I start working with them? We want them to experiment and dare to make mistakes. Working with others is also a challenge. ”

Job Bareman, a Travers Welzijn youth worker, is excited about the project. “It is important for young people to come into contact with art. Art is a way to express your feelings and talk about complicated topics. ”

Van de Waeter: “Collaborating with artists stimulates young people’s imagination. In this way they become more aware of their talent. They will also see that they can help shape this world. During each project we celebrate what young people have devised and created. We believe that it is important for them to learn to be proud of what they invent, do and do ”.

The community art project in Stadshagen will start on Friday 13 May in the evening and then take place on 20 May and 3, 10, 17 and 24 June. Always from 7 to 9 p.m. Stadshagen is the fifth district in Zwolle where culture takes place in the district. In 2020 the project visited the districts of Kamperpoort and Pierik, and in 2021 Aa-landen and Westenholte.

Cultuur in de Wijk is a collaboration between the Cultuur in de Wijk Foundation, Travers Welzijn, WijZ Welzijn, Stadkamer Zwolle, Landstede MBO, Ministry of Justice and Zwolle neighborhood organizations. Cultuur in de Wijk receives financial support from Overijssel province, Stadkamer Zwolle, Zwolle municipality, the reformed Zwolle orphanage, VSBfonds and MAEX.
